Sussex, named after the city of the same name in England, was first settled by British Loyalists. The community was incorporated in 1895, but first began in the late 1700s. Located in south eastern New Brunswick, Sussex welcomed the railway in 1860, which brought great prosperity at the time. Sussex also was home to a camp that contained upwards of ten thousand soldiers during the Second World War. Main Sussex industries include agriculture and tourism. Sussex is located 132 km (82 mi.) southeast of
Fredericton.
Sussex is home to the Agriculture Museum of New Brunswick, which looks in depth at the local industry and includes various artefacts and exhibits.
