Port Elgin, incorporated officially in 1922, is situated in Westmorland County, directly east of Moncton a total of 69.6 km (43.2 mi.). Just minutes from the Nova Scotia border, Port Elgin was founded in 1690 by Acadians. Not surprisingly, the village was dug up at the roots and started all over after the expulsion of the Acadians in 1755. In 1847, the name was changed from Gaspareaux Town to Port Elgin. Before all the European settlers arrived and concurred, the Mi'kmaq resided here in summer camps. A major industry here is fishing.

Port Elgin is a prime vacationing location, near the Confederation Bridge, the Nova Scotia border, Moncton, a scenic shoreline drive, amazingly high tides, flocks of shorebirds and so many other attractions. The Summer Breezes Festival is an annual festival regards arts and crafts, events, a parade and more. Numerous nearby parks, wildlife areas, historical sites and live theatres fill the surrounding area. The ocean views by themselves have the ability to change your life.

Port Elgin accommodations include bed and breakfasts.
