Tracadie-Sheila is situated on the north eastern corner of New Brunswick and belongs to Gloucester County. The dash in between Tracadie and Sheila indicates that the town was once two separate communities until a merger in 1992 brought them together. The Mi'kmaq were the original settlers to the land, naming it Telakdik, which means "camp ground." Though the economy of Tracadie-Sheila has suffered in recent years, its tourism industry continues to draw many visitors. Tracadie-Sheila is 220 km (136.7 mi.) north of Moncton.

Tracadie-Sheila is home to the Tracadie Historical Museum, which includes many displays, exhibits and artefacts, providing insight into leprosarium that was resurrected here in the 1800s. Tracadie-Sheila is also home to a large market and the Cajun Riverboat, which provides tours to the sand dunes, insight on the ecosystem and a local wharf. Visitors to Tracadie-Sheila can also enjoy swimming in the ocean, relaxing by the shoreline and absorbing the glorious views of the ocean, among many other various activities.
