Edmundston is a few kilometres from the border of Quebec and on the border with the United States. The city is the largest majority-francophone city outside of Quebec with 98 per cent of the population that are francophone. Edmundston has always looked to the deep forests that surround it for wealth. Edmundston even claims that the legend of Paul Bunyan was born in these forests.

Edmundston has a wonderful Botanical Garden that offers over 80,000 plants and activities for Children. Edmundston is also host to several summer festivals: in June, the Edmundston jazz and Blues festival occurs and in August there is a large French cultural Festival called Froire Brayonne. Edmundston has many interesting tourist attractions to choose from and offers lots of shopping, a convention centre in the downtown area, two museums, a campground, and even an 18-hole Golf Course.
