Cap-Pelé is located on the Northumberland Strait and it is about 50 kilometres east of Moncton. The village's name, Cap-Pelé translates to Cape Bald and over 95% of its residents are francophone. This Acadian village was founded in 1790 and it was incorporated as a municipality in 1969. Cap-Pelé's main industry is fishing; their huge fleet covers 3 wharves. It is also home to several smoked herring processing plants. This lovely fish is known locally as boucannières. There are as many as 30 of these Smoke houses in Cap-Pelé operating seasonally and in the summertime many of them offer guided tours to visitors.
The well-known Aboiteau Beach is located in Cap-Pelé. This beach is located in Aboiteau Park and it stretches for nearly 2.5 kilometres. This 5 star beach offers several high quality services and it is a favourite family destination. Some of these services include a licensed seafood restaurant and bar, a gift shop and a patio.
