Hillsborough is situated on the south east corner of New Brunswick, in the county of Albert. Hillsborough is also positioned along the Petitcodiac River. Originally settled as Blanchard's Village by the first settlers to the area, at the end of the 1600s, the community name would not remain. In fact, those original settlers built dykes that remain today, despite the fact that an Acadian Expulsion occurred in 1755. An original industry in Hillsborough was farming. In the 1800s, shipbuilding took place here. Hillsborough, now primarily an English community, is 24.7 km (15.3 mi.) south of Moncton.

Two separate museums in Hillsborough, both the Honourable William Henry Steeves House Museum and the Salem and Hillsborough Railroad and Museum are key stops for any tourist. The home to William Henry Steeves was constructed in 1812 and now holds in its possession, key items from that time, as well as exhibits and much more. The Railroad that once ran through Hillsborough now is a splendid museum of cabooses, a steam engine, artefacts and information. A covered bridge that was built in 1923 is also a wonderful attraction, as is the Hillsborough Wetlands Park, which offers trails, scenic splendour and much more.
