Bay du Vin is beautiful community located on the south shore of Miramichi Bay. Bay du Vin literally means "Bay of Wine", but it has been suggested that the name comes from a corruption of the French "Baie de Vents" meaning "Bay of Winds." The community is one of the oldest European settlements in New Brunswick established by French settlers in 1642. Bay du Vin was one of the most important settlements at the time because of the deep water in the section of the Miramichi Bay. Initially bay du Vin had over 15 buildings in the community, however when the English arrived in the late 1750s, the French burned Bay du Vin and moved on.

Bay du Vin has the major Miramichi Rural School as well as a general stores and several amenities. The area surrounding Bay du Vin is rich in oyster beds, smelts, Atlantic salmon and cranberries. Bay du Vin is also host to a famous annual Summer festival, taking place on the first weekend of August. Although bay du Vin is a small community, its picturesque setting makes it an ideal place to visit.
